Hazelhurst Regional Gallery & Arts Centre

Last updated Tuesday, 29 Nov 2011.

As a business unit of the Sutherland Shire Council, Hazelhurst Regional Gallery and Arts Centre is now nearly ten years old. Since its launch in February 2000 the Centre has evolved into a nationally recognised ‘best practice’ model for cultural venue planning and management. Set in a distinctive garden environment on a busy arterial road, the Centre provides a wide range of experiences and opportunities that foster community and cultural participation. Programs include changing exhibitions, seminars, workshops, artist studios, performances, special events and screenings. The café is an important part of the Centre’s activities, providing a meeting place for the local community and an effective income stream. The Centre has a focus on visual culture and attracts a significant base of loyal visitors from the local area as well as from the southern Sydney region and Illawarra. It has developed a reputation for the quality of its programs and has been successful in attracting audiences from across Sydney as well as from interstate and overseas. With a small team of skilled and committed staff, a focused governing Board and a supportive Friends organisation, Hazelhurst has exceeded Council and community expectations over the establishment years of its operation.
