Coonabarabran Arts Council Hall - Children's Services Building
Last updated Friday, 26 Nov 2010.The Children’s Services Building and Arts Council Hall was built in the 1930's as a Mechanics Institute and later became the RSL offices and hall. Council purchased the building and housed the Coonabarbaran Library in the building and the hall itself was leased to the Coonabarabran Amateur Dramatic Society (CADS). When Council moved the library to the new location the building was modified to house the Community Development Officer, Children’s Services and the Centrelink Service Agency - all operated by Council, and the Hall continued to be managed by CAD. The introduction of a community cinema in 1998 by the Arts Council saw a dual purpose for the hall. Local Council and the Arts Council were successful in obtaining state funding for renovation and materials for the projection of film. When CADS disbanded in 2006, Local Council leased the Hall to the Arts Council, who offer a wonderful variety of films and other entertainment in their own small hall, providing a culturally enriching program for residents and visitors. From time to time the hall is also used for small art exhibitions.
Additional purpose: The Hall is the home of the community cinema, Flix in the Stix which presents late release and foreign films on a twice weekly program, the hall is also used for performances by local schools and groups, community concerts, literary presentations and small travelling performances by the Arts Council
